I Ching Oracle Result: Transformation from Hexagram 43 with Changing Lines 1, 2 to Hexagram 31
Yì Jīng’s Response: Hexagram 43.1.2 -> 31
43. Resolution (夬 Guài)
Trigrams

- ☱ Duì (Lake)

- ☰ Qián (Heaven)
The Symbolism of Hexagram 43
Hexagram 夬 (Guài) describes resolution—pressure has accumulated to a point where it must be released through decisive action.
Lake above heaven shows upward pressure exceeding containment. The system can no longer hold what has built up. A clear break or declaration becomes necessary.
Hexagram 43 Judgment
夬,揚于王庭,孚號有厲,告自邑,不利即戎,利有攸往。
(Guài, yáng yú wáng tíng, fú hào yǒu lì, gào zì yì, bù lì jí róng, lì yǒu yōu wǎng.)
"Resolution. A matter is brought clearly into the open. There is risk. It must be communicated directly. Forceful confrontation is not beneficial. Directed movement is beneficial."
Accumulated pressure requires explicit resolution. The issue cannot remain internal and must be declared.
However, escalation into conflict is not the correct path. The system resolves through clarity and decisive direction, not aggression.
Hexagram 43 Image
澤上于天,夬。君子以施祿及下,居德則忌。
(Zé shàng yú tiān, guài. Jūn zǐ yǐ shī lù jí xià, jū dé zé jì.)
"The lake rises above heaven: resolution. Pressure exceeds containment and must be released."
When accumulation surpasses structural limits, release becomes unavoidable.
Proper resolution distributes what has built up rather than allowing rupture. Balance is restored by discharge, not suppression.
Line 1 Changing
壯于前趾,往不勝為咎。
(Zhuàng yú qián zhǐ, wǎng bù shèng wéi jiù.)
"Force is applied prematurely. Advancing without capacity leads to fault."
Initial momentum appears before sufficient strength is established.
Acting too early leads to failure. Timing must match actual capability.
Line 2 Changing
惕號,莫夜有戎,勿恤。
(Tì hào, mò yè yǒu róng, wù xù.)
"Awareness and signaling are maintained. Potential disturbance arises, but concern is unnecessary."
The system detects risk but remains stable. Preparedness replaces panic.
Alertness prevents escalation without requiring immediate action.
Changing to:
31. Resonance (咸 Xián)
Trigrams
- Above
- ☱ Duì (Lake)
- Below
- ☶ Gèn (Mountain)
The Symbolism of Hexagram 31
Hexagram 咸 (Xián) describes resonance—how one system responds to another through sensitivity and internal alignment. Influence here is not applied force, but the natural transmission of signal between receptive structures.
The mountain below provides stability, while the lake above allows openness and exchange. Together, they form a system where stillness enables accurate reception, and openness allows response. This hexagram models how connection forms through responsiveness rather than control.
Hexagram 31 Judgment
咸,亨,利貞。取女吉。
(Xián, hēng, lì zhēn. Qǔ nǚ jí.)
"Resonance brings progress. It is favorable to remain steady. Forming a union brings good fortune."
This describes a state where mutual responsiveness allows connection to form naturally. Stability is required so that influence is not distorted or forced.
When alignment is genuine, union emerges without friction. The system holds together because its components respond to one another accurately.
Hexagram 31 Image
山上有澤,咸。君子以虛受人。
(Shān shàng yǒu zé, xián. Jūn zǐ yǐ xū shòu rén.)
"A lake rests above the mountain: resonance. The superior person remains open and receives others."
The mountain holds still while the lake responds to what it encounters. This pairing creates a system capable of sensing and responding without distortion.
Openness is not passivity, but clarity of reception. By remaining unfilled, one can register external influence accurately and respond appropriately.
