Hexagram 井 (Jǐng) describes a shared resource structure that remains constant regardless of external change. The well does not change—only access to it does.

Water above wood shows resource brought upward through a structured channel. The system depends not on the existence of the resource, but on the ability to draw from it.

The Judgment reads:

井，改邑不改井，无喪无得。往來井井，汔至亦未繘井，羸其瓶，凶。

English Translation:
"The Well. Structures may change, but the source remains. It neither diminishes nor increases. Movement occurs around it. If access fails, or the vessel is inadequate, unfavorable outcome."

This hexagram describes a stable underlying resource that persists independent of circumstance. What changes is not the resource, but the system used to access it.

Failure occurs not from absence, but from inability to draw from what is already present. Proper access and functional tools are essential.

This produces a moment of high capacity and strong expression, but also one that cannot be sustained indefinitely. Peak states demand precision, because excess quickly turns into imbalance.

豐，亨，王假之，勿憂，宜日中。

English Translation:
"Peak. Smooth progress. The governing authority approaches it. Do not be troubled. It is fitting to act at midday."

This hexagram describes a moment of complete expression, where conditions are fully illuminated and all factors are visible. The image of midday represents maximum clarity—nothing is obscured, and all relationships are exposed.

Because everything is at full intensity, action must be direct, decisive, and well-timed. Hesitation wastes the moment, while excess risks destabilization. The system is at its height, and the task is to use that fullness without overextending it.
