I Ching Oracle Lookup - Hexagram 26: Great Accumulation
Welcome to Hexagram 26, Great Accumulation. The table below maps every combination of changing lines to its resulting hexagram — 63 transformations plus the unchanging reading. The notation reads from the bottom line upward: 26.1.5 means Hexagram 26 with lines 1 and 5 changing.
About the Transformations of Hexagram 26
Hexagram 26, Great Accumulation (大畜 Dà Chù), combines Heaven below with Mountain above. Heaven's three unbroken lines establish continuous strength in the lower trigram, while Mountain forms an upper structure of stillness and containment. Low-line movement introduces differentiation into Heaven; high-line movement reshapes Mountain. When changes occur across the midpoint, both the accumulated lower force and its containing upper form are reconstructed.
The table calculates every transformed figure by reversing each moving line and then identifying the resulting six-line configuration as another hexagram. It enumerates six single-line changes and fifty-seven multi-line combinations. An unchanging entry is included as the remaining case: with no inversion at any position, the original figure stands alone and the Judgment of Hexagram 26 alone governs.
Complete polarity reversal carries Great Accumulation to Hexagram 45, Gathering, its all-six-lines complement. The received sequence pairs Hexagram 26 with Hexagram 25, Without Contrivance, through inversion rather than complementation. Rotation from top to bottom converts Great Accumulation into its neighboring partner. Thus the relation to Gathering is polar, whereas the relation to Without Contrivance arises from the figure's reversed vertical arrangement.
