I Ching Oracle Lookup - Hexagram 32: Continuity
Welcome to Hexagram 32, Continuity. The table below maps every combination of changing lines to its resulting hexagram — 63 transformations plus the unchanging reading. The notation reads from the bottom line upward: 32.1.5 means Hexagram 32 with lines 1 and 5 changing.
About the Transformations of Hexagram 32
Hexagram 32, Continuity (恆 Héng), combines Wind below with Thunder above. Wind supplies gradual penetration in the lower trigram, and Thunder introduces activation in the upper. Movement among the first three positions reconstructs Wind; movement among the last three reconstructs Thunder. When moving lines span both halves, the transformation changes how persistent entry below relates to activating movement above across the figure's complete structure.
Every table result is calculated by inverting each changing line and identifying the recomposed six-line figure as a second hexagram. The entries include six single-line changes and fifty-seven multi-line combinations, accounting for every nonempty selection of positions. They are joined by the unchanging reading, in which no line moves and the Judgment of Hexagram 32 alone governs.
When all positions reverse polarity, Continuity resolves into Hexagram 42, Increase, its full complement. The King Wen sequence pairs Continuity with Hexagram 31, Resonance, through inversion rather than complementation. Turning Hexagram 32 upside down produces Resonance's line pattern and establishes their neighboring relation. Complete polarity reversal leads elsewhere, so complement and pair remain separate structural correspondences for this figure.
