About the Transformations of Hexagram 59

Hexagram 59, Dissolution (渙 Huàn), places Water below Wind. Depth structures the lower trigram, while gradual penetration occupies the upper three positions. Changes among lines 1–3 modify Water and the figure's underlying concentration; changes among lines 4–6 reshape Wind. Movement on both sides of the midpoint reconstructs the relation between depth below and dispersing influence throughout the upper structure.

Each line marked as changing in the table inverts, and the finished six-line pattern then resolves into a second hexagram. Six entries show outcomes from exactly one moving position, while fifty-seven cover every combination involving multiple lines. The unchanging reading supplies the remaining case: no line reverses, no resulting figure arises, and the Judgment of Hexagram 59 alone governs.

At complete transformation, Dissolution becomes Hexagram 55, Peak Fullness, its all-six-lines complement. Its received King Wen partner is Hexagram 60, Limitation, generated by inversion rather than complementation. Turning Hexagram 59 upside down yields Limitation's pattern and establishes their adjacent relation. Total polarity reversal therefore connects Dissolution with Peak Fullness, while rotation connects it with its sequence neighbor.
