Yin-Yang symbol

Welcome to Hexagram 64, Before Completion. The table below maps every combination of changing lines to its resulting hexagram — 63 transformations plus the unchanging reading. The notation reads from the bottom line upward: 64.1.5 means Hexagram 64 with lines 1 and 5 changing.

About the Transformations of Hexagram 64

Hexagram 64, Before Completion (未濟 Wèi Jì), combines Water below with Fire above. Its lines alternate yin and yang from base to top, with Water occupying the lower trigram and Fire the upper. Changes among lines 1–3 reshape Water's alternating structure; changes among lines 4–6 reshape Fire. Movement spanning both ranges reconstructs the distribution across the entire figure rather than altering only one half.

The table forms every transformed outcome by reversing each designated moving line and matching the final pattern to another hexagram. It contains six single-line changes and fifty-seven multi-line combinations. The additional unchanging reading represents the case without inversion, in which no second figure is formed and the Judgment of Hexagram 64 alone governs.

Complete polarity reversal converts Before Completion into Hexagram 63, After Completion, its exact complement. After Completion is likewise its King Wen pair partner, joined through inversion. Turning Hexagram 64 upside down yields the pattern of Hexagram 63, so rotation and all-line change arrive at the same adjacent figure. Their mechanisms remain different despite sharing a result at the close of the sequence.
