About the Transformations of Hexagram 15

Hexagram 15, Leveling (謙 Qiān), sets Mountain below Earth. Mountain supplies a firm lower boundary structured around stillness, while the three yin lines of Earth form a receptive upper field. Movement among the first three lines modifies Mountain's pattern; movement among the last three differentiates Earth. When changes span both trigrams, the transformation redistributes firmness and openness throughout the figure rather than altering only one structural component.

For each table entry, all designated changing lines invert and the final binary configuration resolves into a second hexagram. Six entries correspond to movement at one line, and fifty-seven represent every possible multi-line combination. The table also gives the unchanging reading its own entry: without inversion, no resulting figure arises, and the Judgment of Hexagram 15 alone governs.

With all positions changing, Leveling becomes Hexagram 10, Treading, its complete complement. The King Wen sequence pairs Leveling with Hexagram 16, Mobilized Readiness, by inversion rather than by total polarity reversal. Turning Hexagram 15 upside down yields the pattern of Hexagram 16. These two prominent relations therefore lead in different directions: complementation reaches Hexagram 10, while rotational pairing reaches the immediate sequence neighbor.
