About the Transformations of Hexagram 23

Hexagram 23, Stripping Away (剝 Bō), places Earth below Mountain. Five yin lines extend from the base through the fifth position, while the remaining yang line closes the figure at the top. Changes among the lower three positions differentiate Earth; changes among the upper three reshape Mountain and the isolated upper line. Movement across both trigrams redistributes the figure's pronounced imbalance throughout its full vertical structure.

To form each mapped result, every changing line inverts and the completed six-line configuration resolves into a second hexagram. The table presents six single-line transformations and fifty-seven multi-line combinations. Alongside those changed figures it includes the unchanging reading: all positions remain fixed, no second figure arises, and the Judgment of Hexagram 23 alone governs.

Total polarity reversal transforms Stripping Away into Hexagram 43, Resolution, its all-six-lines complement. Its King Wen partner is instead Hexagram 24, Return, joined through inversion. Turning Hexagram 23 upside down moves its single yang line from the top to the base and produces Return. This rotational relation marks the consecutive pair, while complementation changes all positions and leads to Hexagram 43 elsewhere in the sequence.
