About the Transformations of Hexagram 34

Hexagram 34, Great Force (大壯 Dà Zhuàng), combines Heaven below with Thunder above. Three uninterrupted yang lines fill the lower trigram, and Thunder introduces activation into the upper half. Low-line changes break or preserve Heaven's continuity; high-line changes reconfigure Thunder. Transformations that span the midpoint alter both the concentrated lower strength and the activating pattern through which it enters the figure's outer structure.

The table derives each resulting hexagram through line inversion. Every designated moving line changes polarity, and the recomposed six-line figure resolves into its numbered outcome. The mapping comprises six single-line changes and fifty-seven multi-line combinations. It also includes the unchanging reading, where all positions remain fixed and the Judgment of Hexagram 34 alone governs without a second figure.

Total polarity reversal carries Great Force to Hexagram 20, Viewing, its all-six-lines complement. The received King Wen sequence pairs Great Force with Hexagram 33, Withdrawal, by inversion rather than complementation. Rotation from top to bottom transforms Hexagram 34 into Withdrawal. These prominent relations thus lead in different directions: complete line reversal reaches Viewing, while reversed vertical order reaches its sequence partner.
