About the Transformations of Hexagram 10

Hexagram 10, Treading (履 Lǚ), combines Lake below with Heaven above. Lake's open structure occupies the first three line positions, and Heaven's uninterrupted strength fills the upper three. Low-line movement changes the configuration of openness at the base; high-line movement breaks or preserves the uniformity of Heaven. Multi-line changes spanning the midpoint reconstruct both components and the structural relation between responsive conduct below and strength above.

The table calculates each outcome by inverting every line designated as changing and then matching the recomposed figure to its second hexagram. It contains the six possible single-line transformations and fifty-seven multi-line combinations. A separate unchanging entry completes the full set of readings: because all six lines retain their original polarity, the figure does not resolve elsewhere and the Judgment of Hexagram 10 alone governs.

Total change carries Treading to Hexagram 15, Leveling, the complement obtained when all six line values are reversed. Its received King Wen partner is Hexagram 9, Small Accumulation, connected through inversion instead. The line pattern of Hexagram 10, rotated from top to bottom, yields Hexagram 9. Consequently, its complement and its sequence partner are different figures generated by two distinct structural operations.
