About the Transformations of Hexagram 11

Hexagram 11, Peace (泰 Tài), sets Heaven in the lower trigram and Earth in the upper. Three yang lines form the foundation, while three yin lines occupy the outer half, creating a sharply divided figure whose trigrams differ at every corresponding position. Changes below modify Heaven's continuous strength; changes above differentiate Earth's receptive field. Combinations crossing the boundary redistribute both polar groups and reshape the exchange between lower and upper levels.

Each moving line represented by the table inverts, after which the resulting six-line configuration is identified as another hexagram. The table maps six transformations produced by a single changing line and fifty-seven produced by multiple changing lines. It also includes the unchanging reading, in which every line remains fixed, no secondary hexagram is formed, and the Judgment of Hexagram 11 alone governs.

The most comprehensive transformation inverts all six positions and resolves Peace into Hexagram 12, Standstill, its full complement. Hexagram 12 is also the adjacent King Wen partner, but the pairing mechanism is inversion: turning Hexagram 11 upside down places Earth below Heaven and produces Standstill. In this instance inversion and complementation converge on the same partner, even though the operations remain structurally distinct.
