I Ching Oracle Lookup - Hexagram 63: After Completion
Welcome to Hexagram 63, After Completion. The table below maps every combination of changing lines to its resulting hexagram — 63 transformations plus the unchanging reading. The notation reads from the bottom line upward: 63.1.5 means Hexagram 63 with lines 1 and 5 changing.
About the Transformations of Hexagram 63
Hexagram 63, After Completion (既濟 Jì Jì), places Fire below Water. Yin and yang alternate through all six positions, with Fire structuring the lower trigram and Water the upper. Low-line transformations disrupt or reconstruct Fire's alternating pattern; high-line transformations do the same for Water. Movement across both halves changes the carefully distributed relation between the two trigrams throughout the completed configuration.
Each result in the table follows from inverting every line marked as changing and identifying the recomposed six-line figure as a second hexagram. Six entries represent one moving line, and fifty-seven represent all multi-line combinations. The unchanging reading completes the inventory: no position reverses, no secondary figure arises, and the Judgment of Hexagram 63 alone governs.
When all six lines change, After Completion resolves into Hexagram 64, Before Completion, its full complement. Before Completion is also its King Wen partner, where the mechanism is inversion: turning Hexagram 63 upside down produces Hexagram 64. Thus total polarity reversal and reversed vertical order converge upon the same final neighboring figure, although the two operations remain structurally distinct.
