I Ching Oracle Lookup - Hexagram 43: Resolution
Welcome to Hexagram 43, Resolution. The table below maps every combination of changing lines to its resulting hexagram — 63 transformations plus the unchanging reading. The notation reads from the bottom line upward: 43.1.5 means Hexagram 43 with lines 1 and 5 changing.
About the Transformations of Hexagram 43
Hexagram 43, Resolution (夬 Guài), sets Heaven below Lake. Five yang lines extend from the base through the fifth position, while a single yin line opens the figure at the top. Changes in the lower trigram differentiate Heaven's continuous strength; changes in the upper trigram reshape Lake and the isolated upper line. Movement across both halves redistributes the pronounced concentration of yang throughout the complete structure.
For each entry in the table, every designated changing line reverses polarity and the final pattern resolves into a second hexagram. The mapping contains six transformations with one moving position and fifty-seven with multiple moving positions. It also preserves the unchanging reading, in which all lines remain fixed, no secondary figure arises, and the Judgment of Hexagram 43 alone governs.
At maximum transformation, Resolution becomes Hexagram 23, Stripping Away, its exact complement across all six positions. Its King Wen partner is Hexagram 44, Encounter, related through inversion. Turning Resolution upside down moves the single yin line from the top to the base and produces Encounter. Thus rotation establishes the neighboring pair, whereas complete polarity reversal leads to Stripping Away elsewhere in the sequence.
